Valdosta Fire Department Hosts Career Expo

VFD-Fire-TruckVALDOSTA, GA – The Valdosta Fire Department has partnered with the Georgia Department of Labor to host a Firefighters Career Expo, on Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Valdosta Fire Department, Station #1, located at 106 S. Oak Street.

Citizens who have ever wondered what education, training and skills are required for a career in Fire Services will have all the information available to them at this inaugural expo.  Several fire departments from across the state of Georgia have also been invited to participate, in addition to representatives from the Georgia Fire Academy, Valdosta State University, Wiregrass Technical College and Georgia Military College.

The VFD will be accepting applications for employment at the Career Expo.  To become a member of the VFD, an applicant must have a high school diploma and must successfully pass a cognitive/academic skills and physical agility test, a background check, reference checks, a physical and a drug test. The department has a comprehensive 12-week fire training program for those selected; therefore, prior experience is not required. Click here to view job openings with the VFD and the City of Valdosta.
