Congressman Scott to Visit Lowndes County Extension Office

Rep.-Austin-ScottVALDOSTA, GA – U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08), Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee’s Subcommittee on Horticulture, Research, Biotechnology and Foreign Agriculture, will visit the Lowndes County Extension Office at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, March 19, 2014The Lowndes County Extension Office is located at 2102 E. Hill Avenue in Valdosta, GA.

During the visit, Congressman Scott will meet with UGA extension staff, 4-H volunteers and students. He will discuss the value of the extension service and the Smith-Lever Act of 1914 in advance of the 100th anniversary of its enactment on May 8, 2014. They will also discuss programming and events that the extension office is conducting to meet the needs of residents in the Lowndes County community.

The Act created the Cooperative Extension Service, which is an educational partnership between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the nation’s land-grant universities. Its purpose is to support research, education, and extension programs at land-grant universities and other partnerships to address problems in food, agriculture, natural resources, youth development, and community economic development.

Chairman Scott has also introduced a bipartisan resolution commemorating the anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act.
