THOMASVILLE, GA – Thomas University and the Florida A&M University Alumni Association will present an African-American History Lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, to celebrate Black History Month. The event will be held at the First Missionary Baptist Church, 110 W. Calhoun St., Thomasville. The keynote speaker will be Dr. David H. Jackson, Jr., Professor of History and Chair of the Department of History and Political Science at Florida A&M University.

Jackson is author of the books “A Chief Lieutenant of the Tuskegee Machine: Charles Banks of Mississippi,” “Retrieving the American Past,” “Go Sound the Trumpets! Selections in Florida’s African American History,” and “Booker T. Washington and the Struggle Against White Supremacy: The Southern Educational Tours, 1908-1912.” Jackson earned a doctorate from the University of Memphis in 1997.

In 2007 he was appointed to the University Press of Florida Advisory Board. Jackson also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the John G. Riley House Museum in 2007.

After the lecture, a book signing and reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. The event is free and open to the public. It’s co-sponsored by Bishop Hall Charter School and the Thomas County Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance.
