VALDOSTA, GA – Lowndes High School Mock Trial team members will be heading to Yale University this week to compete in the Bulldog Invitational. Members of the team are Savannah Pierce, Kim Norton, Cason Green, Hannah Poole and, from Valdosta High School, Collier Mutert. The last time the LHS Mock Trial team combined with a Valdosta High Student (Tumise Asebiomo) to travel to Yale was in 2011 when they won Best Attorney (Gabe Gonzalez), Best Witnesses (Tumise Asebiomo and Anna Kate Davis) and the title of best team at the Yale Invitational.
Team coach Michael White reflected on the last team he took to Yale and then forward to the team he will coach this week. “The tournament in 2011 was very competitive. We were honored to have received the awards we did that year. Mock Trial has grown on the National and World Level in the past 5 years as a very popular and competitive academic sport. The State of Georgia has been successful in many of the National and World tournaments being represented by many teams from North Georgia most notably Jonesboro and Henry Grady High School who have won National and World Titles in the past few years.”
“The level of talent we faced in 2011 was tough but the talent we will face this year will be packed with teams that have competed within the past two years in World Championships and have finished in the top four of those tournaments.” “There is no question our team is excited about the experience they will gain from this.”
