Valdosta, Ga — Lowndes County and the five municipalities are running out of time to agree on the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) before the tax ends. A Supreme Court decision overturned judicial review as an option for settlement. The Lowndes County Commission met Tuesday and voted and approved the current division of the one percent sales tax. The sales tax is currently split 52 percent for the county and 48 percent for the five cities.
All five cities will hold a meeting to vote on the issue, and all of the city mayors must sign the certificate before submitting it to the state. If the cities do not meet a deadline by Thursday, October 17th, the Department of Revenue will stop collecting the tax.
