VALDOSTA, GA — The Valdosta Mayor and City Council met briefly on October 17th to ratify the Local Options Sales Tax (LOST). The agreement prevents the LOST revenue from lapsing for the benefit of the citizens and the continuation of local government services. All mayors from the five municipalities in Lowndes County agreed on the proposed certificate, but they had hoped to reach a more favorable agreement in the negotiations.
“I don’t feel good about the decision we just made, quite honestly, but our first responsibility is to the citizens and taxpayers of Valdosta and Lowndes County,” said Mayor Gayle. Some council persons felt they were not met with much negotiation from county. The five cities have agreed to abide by the action taken by the General Assembly next year.
