VPD Hopes To Increase Neighborhood Watches

Valdosta Police Car - Valdosta TodayWith only five neighborhood watch groups throughout the entire city of Valdosta, police chief Brian Childress is hoping more people across the city band together to form more neighborhood groups.

In the wake of the George Zimmerman trial, Childress said while the police does want the groups active, they must know their limitations. “Your guidelines are simply this: you just pick up the phone and dial 911, tell the dispatcher what you see and hear- no more than that.”

Police officials say that crime goes down as much as sixty five percent in areas that have a neighborhood watch.

If you want to start a neighborhood watch, contact Officer Vernotis Williams. His number is (229) 242-2606 Ext. 4090 or (229) 292 7785.
