With Independence Day just 48 hours away, many residents of south Georgia are stocking up on fireworks for their own personal light show on Thursday night. However, Valdosta Fire Chief JD Rice says if you are caught shooting off anything illegal, you could face some hefty fines and a loss of property.
With rather loose fireworks laws in neighboring Florida, Rice says many Georgians simply don’t know what exactly is legal to bring back into the state. In Georgia, any fireworks that explode into the air are illegal (i.e. roman candles, bottle rockets, artillery shells).
Last 4th of July, Valdosta officials confiscated fireworks from around a dozen people citywide.
