Officials from the Mexican consulate are in Valdosta this week, aiming to help local immigrants get the paperwork they need to be here in the States legally. Dozens turned out at the Goodwill career center on Norman Drive Tuesday to try and get anything from passports and birth certificates to simple ID cards.
For many, this is the first step to becoming an American citizen. Thanks to the strong response, Goodwill officials say they hope to host the consulate workers at least once per year.
Officials from the Mexican Consulate will be in Valdosta through Friday.
