Over five hundred kids will have supplies and a backpack to kick off the new school year, thanks to a giveaway Saturday at the Mildred Hunter Community Center in Valdosta.

The giveaway was hosted by the city’s Parks and Rec department, with other city agencies helping out. Participants emphasized that the event was not a handout, but rather a way to get kids excited about going back to school.

Kids enjoyed playing musical chairs, getting their face painted,  and taking part in exercise classes over the weekend. The American Red Cross, Wiregrass Technical College and Adel South Health District also took part in the event.
