According to officials with the Suwannee River Management District, the Withlacoochie River and its tributaries are back to normal following a large sewage spill around two weeks ago.
Nearly 100 gallons of raw sewage spilled into the river per minute near Highway 133 back on April 24th after a Lowndes County main burst. River Management District officials say today that tests taken over the weekend show that the contamination is passed.
Fishermen and boaters had been advised to avoid the Withlacoochie until the ‘all clear’ was given.
