Valdosta, GA– State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge today released the first-ever Georgia College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) that measures schools and school districts on an easy-to-understand 100 point scale. The CCRPI is the new accountability system that replaces the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) measurement in Georgia.
“Our teachers are dedicated to providing a quality education for each of our students. Nine out of eleven of our schools scored 90 points or higher on the new CCRPI accountability system. I am confident that we will meet the challenges of the new accountability measure in each one of our schools,” commented Superintendent of Lowndes County Schools, Wes Taylor.
Taylor explained that Lowndes County has used its Balanced Scorecard to measure both academic and non-academic indicators for improvement. “The CCRPI follows that same premise in that it reports on our progress beyond standardized test scores,” said Taylor.
“While we are pleased with our initial index scores, our long-term improvement process will include identifying areas to better prepare our students for success in college and careers when they leave Lowndes High School,” added Taylor.
“The first reporting of CCRPI is considered a hold harmless year. The index provides a baseline from which we identify areas in which we are in need of improvement. We are confident that our schools will meet the challenges of this new accountability system, just as they have in the past, after all the new targets and refinements to the data reporting are firmly established,” said Superintendent of Valdosta City Schools, E. Martin Roesch.
The CCRPI gives more insight into the performance of students in the classroom (for example, the percentage of students passing fine arts classes and the reading level of students) and the performance of many of our instructional programs (including such data as the number of CTAE Pathway Completers, credits earned in Advanced Placement courses, and the completion of career related assessments). The CCRPI also displays the performance of subjects which have been tested but never reported under the old Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) accountability system. Overall, the CCRPI will help parents and the public better understand how schools are performing in a more comprehensive manner than the pass/fail system previously in place under AYP.
