Fourteen people have been arrested as part of a large identity theft ring in Tift County, and officials say more arrests could be on the way. Sheriff’s officials discovered a ‘stockpile of evidence’ after months of following suspects and their paper trails, and finally have beginning putting the identity thieves behind bars.
One woman, Cassandra Brownlee, faces 199 counts of identity theft after police searched her home. Four others- Shantrell Brown, Brittany Gray, Richard Blake and Kayla Fowler- are facing a minimum of 60 counts of identity theft apiece.
Investigators say some of the suspects were caretakers who victimized elderly clients or used those seniors names or addresses to receive items obtained through identity fraud.
