A trio of local dermatologists are hosting free cancer screenings at SGMC in Valdosta this week. Dr. William R. Howard, Dr. Betsy P. Thacker, and Dr. John A. Cole will be doing the screenings in advance of the summer season, when people’s tans could turn into something far more dangerous.

The Pearlman Cancer Center at SGMC is hoping to keep as many South Georgians out of the statistics pool as possible- skin cancer accounts for more than 3.5 million cases in the United States each year.
