VALDOSTA — Each year, the Georgia School Public Relations Association (GSPRA) acknowledges school PR professionals who demonstrate exceptional communications skills by producing outstanding publications, photography and electronic media. This evaluation program is designed to provide recognition and professional support for those who do great work in communicating with parents, staff, the media, community members, business partners and other specialized publics.

For this year’s publication contest, Valdosta City Schools (VCS) submitted five entries and won five awards, two of them were “Best in Category” recognitions. The director of public relations, Jennifer Steedley submitted the Valdosta City Schools Code of Student Conduct in the Handbook Category; she received the Gold Award of Excellence and Best in Category for this submission. In the area of Special Purpose Publications, the annual Facts and Figures folder was submitted; this was also awarded a Gold Award of Excellence and the honor of Best in Category. The third submission in the area of Annual Reports was this year’ss “VCS – Imagine the Possibilities” magazine. This submission was given a Silver Award of Merit. Next in the Internet/Web Site Category the Valdosta City Schools website, www.gocats.org was entered. It was also given a Silver Award of Merit. And lastly, VCS entered the Social Media Category highlighting their social media presence through Facebook and Twitter. This entry garnered a Bronze Award of Merit.

Steedley will also continue to serve on the GSPRA board for another term as the Region IV Director. As a region director she will work with 49 counties in southeastern Georgia to recruit and maintain membership for the organization.
