THOMASVILLE, GA – Rehearsals for the Thomasville Singers’ spring concert have begun, and the public is invited to join the group.

“The repertoire for this season will be Part II of the ‘Messiah’ by George Friedrich Handel, which concludes with the Hallelujah chorus,” said Dr. Karl Barton, Arts for the Community at Thomas University (ACTU) coordinator.

Raymond Hughes continues as director of the Thomasville Singers. He is former Chorus Master for the New York Metropolitan Opera and current artistic director of the Thomasville Music and Drama Troupe. Dr. Jim Amend will serve as the accompanist on the piano for rehearsals.

“Part II of the ‘Messiah’ contains the greatest choruses of the entire work, which provide plenty of challenges for the singers, but are ultimately some of the most rewarding in the entire choral repertoire,” Hughes said.

The Thomasville Singers will rehearse every Monday 7-9 p.m. in the Flowers Foods Executive Classroom of the Smith-Bonvillian Hall on the Main Campus of Thomas University. Membership is open to all with the ability to sing on pitch and a desire to improve singing skills.

The spring concert will take place on Sunday, April 13, at 4 p.m. at the Thomasville Center for the Arts complete with chamber orchestra.

“I would like to encourage everyone who has an interest in singing and making some great music together to join us Monday nights,” Hughes continued. “The opportunity to perform these selections from the ‘Messiah’ with a chamber orchestra in the wonderful auditorium at the Center will be a real treat for the performers and audience alike.”

Those interested in joining should enter the TU campus from Pinetree Boulevard, park in an available space in the lot, head toward the entrance of Smith-Bonvillian Hall, the building with the large columns.
