On July 29th, the Lowndes School Nutrition Association (LSNA) kicked off its first meeting for the 2013-14 school year at Westside Elementary School. The local affiliate of the Georgia School Nutrition Association is composed of managers, assistant managers, head cashiers, school nutrition assistants, and school nutrition central office staff of the Lowndes County School System.

A pivotal moment of the meeting was the contribution of prepackaged food items and a monetary donation to Hungry at Home by LNSA Members. Hungry at Home is LNSA’s newly adopted community service project. The new project started as a simple concept to feed hungry children at Lake Park Elementary.

According to Founders Teresa Parkerson and Angie Hendley, the program has now spread to five additional elementary schools and one middle school.  Over 350 students and families are now benefitting from the program.

LSNA officers for 2013-14 are composed of: Vickey Reed, President; Amy Cowart, President-Elect; Dare Howze, Secretary; and Mary Preston, Treasurer.  Libby Peters, Lowndes Area Manager, serves as Eighth District President for 2013-14.
