ATLANTA — The two Atlanta Hawks involved in an incident with the New York Police Department, during which Thabo Sefolosha’s leg was broken, were in court on Tuesday to find out when their trial would begin.

Sefolosha and Pero Antic were arrested in the early morning hours on April 8 near the 1 OAK nightclub in New York City for allegedly interfering with the police’s efforts to establish a crime scene after the stabbing of Indiana Pacers big man Chris Copeland. Sefolosha’s right fibula was broken reportedly during the arrest, and he has claimed that he suffered the injury at the hands of the NYPD.

ESPN.com’s Ian Begley reports that the trial date is set for September 9, and that during Tuesday’s court appearance, an attorney for the two Hawks “filed a subpoena to the judge requesting personnel files, disciplinary records and arrest history reports for the four officers involved in the arrests of the players.

‘Put simply, the officers were not justified in their actions,’ the subpoena read,” Begley writes.

Sefolosha and Antic are contesting the charges against them. Sefolosha has said that he is not sure when he’ll be able to return to the court and that he has suffered major changes to his daily life, including being unable to make it up the stairs to say goodnight to his children.
