A 17-year old Valdosta High School student has been charged after a Wednesday incident in which he brought a pocket knife and BB gun inside the school.

Tearrance Wrice was stopped by a VHS coach after he allegedly smelled like smoke. A search of the student’s pockets found a pocketknife, and school officials later found a BB gun made to look like a 9mm pistol in his backpack.

Wrice told the coach that the gun was not real, but then grabbed it out of his hands and took off running. He was finally caught in the median of the roadway at Perimeter and N. Forrest Street.

The 17-year old is now charged with two counts of Possession of a Weapon on School Property (Knife and BB gun), 1 count of Disruption of Public School, and 1 count of Possession of Marijuana on School Property.
