Local Runners Safe After Explosions Rock Boston Marathon

police lights blurAt least two people are confirmed dead after two IED’s exploded near the finish line at the Boston Marathon on Monday. The blasts went off near the VIP grandstands, which were filled with family members of those involved in the Newtown shootings.

Three Lowndes County residents took part in the marathon- April Scruggs of Valdosta and Sean McConnell of Hahira finished the marathon prior to the Monday incident.

The Valdosta Daily Times reports that a third person, Yvette Moore of Valdosta, was reportedly just 200 yards away from the finish line when the bombs went off. She is said to be shaken, but uninjured.
