ValdostaCityHallThe City of Valdosta will host a 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 8:45 a.m., at Valdosta Fire Station #1, located at 106 S. Oak Street. Valdosta Fire Chief J.D. Rice will preside over the ceremony in remembrance of those who lost their lives that day 12 years ago and in honor of the continued efforts of public safety professionals.

“The lives of those we lost and the outstanding heroism displayed by our public servants who sacrificed their lives during the tragic 9-11 attacks will never be forgotten,” said Mayor John Gayle. “Locally, we are fortunate to have an exceptional team of first responders, and we are reminded daily of their commitment to be ready in a moment’s notice to save the lives of others.  I invite Valdosta citizens to observe a moment of silence with us on 9-11 to remember the fallen, to honor the courage and commitment of all public safety professionals, and to give thanks for the continued protection and freedom we have as Americans.”

Fire Chief J.D. Rice, Chief of Police Brian Childress, the combined Valdosta Fire and Police Honor Guard, and other members of the Valdosta Fire and Police Departments will be present to remember the innocent victims and honor the brave heroes who perished during the tragic event.  The Valdosta Fire Department Pipe and Drum Corps will perform and a special flag presentation by the Woodmen of the World will also take place during the ceremony.
