VALDOSTA — On Saturday October 15, the Autism Society of Georgia will sponsor a Run for Autism. The Fun Run will start at 8:00 AM and the 5.164K Run will start at 8:30 AM. The events will be held at Wild Adventures theme park. Participants can register at http://bit.ly/ValdostaAutismRun.

On the same day there will be a run in Kennesaw, and the following weekend there will be a third run in Augusta. The Autism Society of Georgia is demonstrating their goal to build capacity in communities all over the state. Many families, especially those in smaller communities, have to drive long distances to find the resources their loved one needs.

The 5.164K distance highlights the 1 in 64 prevalence rate of autism in Georgia. While this means 1 in 64 families will have children born with autism, the Autism Society of Georgia is also raising awareness about the challenges autism presents for parents, siblings, grandparents, teachers, and neighbors. When you multiply by all of these, the number of people affected is staggering.

Serving the Georgia autism community for over 40 years, the Autism Society of Georgia is a grassroots community-based organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for everyone touched by autism. They advocate for acceptance and inclusion, and they strive to accelerate access to the resources each individual needs over their lifetime. The Autism Society of Georgia, an affiliate of the Autism Society of America, is a Georgia 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
