KIDS PLAY WITH CLASSMATES IN VLPRA YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Share with friends

VLPRA-LogoKids can wear their Viking, Wildcat, or Valiant colors proudly when they sign up for the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority’s Youth Basketball League. VLPRA is holding registration now for the school-based league that offers teams for each city and county school, as well as Valwood.

The league is open to all 1st through 12th graders in Valdosta and Lowndes County. Teams are divided by school, grade, and gender. For instance, each school may have a boys team and a girls team for each grade.

Those teams will wear Wildcat, Viking, or Valiant-themed uniforms. VLPRA Executive Director George Page says it’s a great way to develop young athletes while promoting school spirit.  “Children identify with their school colors and mascot,” says Page. “This is a way for kids in elementary, middle, and high school to play in a rec league that celebrates their individual schools while learning game fundamentals and good sportsmanship.”

“These children will grow together and form more cohesive teams since they already have the common bond of being classmates,” Page added.

Registration is open through October 24th. Parents can register their children at www.vlpra.com. Games will start in mid-December and run through early spring. Each player’s jersey and shorts are included in the $75 registration fee, which also includes games, practices, post-season, and all equipment. Plus, kids can keep their uniforms at the end of the season.

VLPRA is also looking for volunteer coaches. Every coach must pass a background check to receive a roster, so the VLPRA asks that potential coaches call the main office immediately at 229-259-3507.
