Valdosta woman facing charges for reporting false burglary

VALDOSTA – A Valdosta woman is facing charges after the Valdosta Police Department says she reported a false burglary.

VPD says 22-year-old Khadedra Walker called them to her residence in the 1300 block of Ponderosa Drive and reported an unknown person entered her residence and stole multiple items from her home.

Authorities say as they began working the case, the VPD Burglary Unit discovered a claimed-to-be stolen item was pawned at a local pawn shop, and that Walker had sold the item to the shop.

Detectives obtained arrest warrants for Walker for making a false statement and for the false report of a crime.

“This is the third case in two weeks where detectives have charged persons with False Statement and False Report of a Crime,” stated Chief Brian Childress. “Not only do these cases create a danger to responding officers, it wastes valuable time for officers and detectives to investigate legitimate crimes, and it also creates a false appearance of crime issues in Valdosta. These false reports will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted.”

Walker told VPD detectives that she would voluntarily turn herself in to the Lowndes County Jail this morning, but at last check she had not been booked.
