VLPRA to show free movie downtown for Earth Day

| April 19, 2017

VALDOSTA – Valdosta Main Street, the City of Valdosta, and the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority are partnering to show The Lorax this Saturday, April 22.

The PG-rated film will air on a 20-foot wide inflatable movie screen behind the Historic Courthouse on Valley Street in downtown Valdosta.  The blockbuster animated movie is based on the classic Dr. Seuss book of the same name.

The event is in celebration of Earth Day on April 22nd and will also kick off Georgia Cities Week.  There’s no fee to watch the movie and no registration necessary; just show up and bring the whole family!  Local vendors will sell popcorn, Italian Ice, hamburgers, and hot dogs starting at 6:00 PM.  Movie-watchers can settle in for the film at 7:30 and it will begin as soon as the sun goes down.  Organizers ask that everyone bring chairs for seating in Valley Street or blankets for those who plan to sit on the courthouse lawn.

This collaboration is part of VLPRA’s “Movies in the Park” series.  This is the second film of 2017.  VLPRA’s next movie will be “Storks” on Saturday, May 13th at Drexel Park.
