Valdosta police respond to daycare sexual assault allegations circulating social media

| April 19, 2017

VALDOSTA – On April 14, 2017, the Valdosta Police Department received a report of inappropriate physical conduct between two small children at a local daycare. A full incident report was completed and due to their ages (each being 4-years-old), it was determined that criminal charges were not appropriate. However, due to the nature of the allegations between the two small children, the police department notified the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) who have confirmed they are investigating the incident.

On April 19, 2017, the Valdosta Police Department was contacted by several citizens and the media who reported observing a concerning social media post regarding the described incident. The social media post has since been shared and viewed approximately a half million times. Because of the numerous inquiries from the Facebook Post, this release is being distributed to the media.

“This case involved allegations of improper touching and comments by two four-year old children. The childcare facility where the incident occurred have been fully cooperative and as with any other incident of this type, the case is being properly investigated, regardless of the information posted on social media,” stated Lieutenant Adam Bembry.
