VALDOSTA – More than a half-dozen businesses were raided as part of a crackdown on illegal gambling operations in Valdosta.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Valdosta Police Department executed eight search warrants in Lowndes County for gambling violations Wednesday.

Investigators say warrants were served at seven businesses and one residence. Agents seized evidence and monetary assets that were made from illegal gambling machines.

The GBI says the businesses are licensed to operate “Coin Operated Amusement Machines” but investigators found that customers were receiving cash for winning credits, which in Georgia may only be redeemed for lottery tickets or store merchandise.

Warrants were executed at the 7-11 grocery at 1407 West Hill Ave., Leah 229 at 2904 North Patterson St., Lee Minit Mart at 1306 North Ashley St., Lee Minit Mart at 505 East Ann St., Citgo at 1836 West Hill Ave., One Dollar Family at 1913 N. Ashley Street, and Exclusive Production at 1412 East Park Ave., all in Valdosta.

The GBI says multiple arrests are pending and more than 60 officers were involved in the operation.
