VSU Baseball Falls to Georgia Southwestern

| March 3, 2017

AMERICUS – The Valdosta State baseball team was held at bay by the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes for a 0-8 loss in non-conference action in Americus, Ga. on Wednesday evening.

Pitcher Jarrod Crum landed his first victory of the season after allowing just three hits over the course of eight innings. Crum racked up seven strikeouts in the game while walking just one Blazer batter.

The Blazers placed two runners aboard in the top of the first inning with singles by Tyler Homer and Luke Suchon, which placed runners at the corners with two away. Crum induced a Chipper Andzel fielder’s choice to end the threat, however, and he faced just one over the minimum the rest of the way.

Valdosta State worked through six different pitchers in the contest, but the Hurricanes managed to navigate the changes effectively, with seven different players recording at least one hit in the game.

With the loss Valdosta State fell to 11-5 overall, while GSW managed to improve their record to 5-10 on the season.

The Blazers return to action this weekend in Valdosta, Ga., with a three-game set against West Alabama, beginning with a Saturday doubleheader set to kick off at 1:00 p.m.
