VLPRA’s Smoothie King 5k kicks off Azalea Festival this weekend

VALDOSTA – Runners and walkers will kick off the annual Azalea Festival this Saturday with VLPRA’s Smoothie King 5K & 1-Mile Fun Run.

The race is held in the VSU area and is the opening event for the Valdosta-Lowndes Azalea Festival, which takes place in VLPRA’s Drexel Park.

Registration is open now for both the 5K and Fun Run at the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority’s website,www.vlpra.com.  On-site registration will open at 7:00 AM on Saturday morning, March 11th, at the Valdosta State University Recreation Center located at 1300 Sustella Avenue.  The race will start and finish at the Recreation Center.  The 5K begins with a mass start at 8:00 AM.  The fun run starts when the last 5K participant finishes.

Both events are open to all ages and all fitness levels.  Participants will get t-shirts and Smoothie King treats while supplies last.  Shirts are guaranteed for participants who pre-register.  There will be medals for the top 5K finishers overall and in each age division.  Registration is $20 for the 5K and $10 for the fun run.  More information is available at www.vlpra.com.
