| March 28, 2017

VALDOSTA – Monday night, Valdosta residents had the opportunity to attend an annual dinner to hear inspirational stories from local heroes.

The American Red Cross South Georgia chapter hosted their fifth annual Hometown Heroes dinner to recognize local citizens for their hard work.

Organizers say these people go above and beyond in their day-to-day life to make a difference, whether it is saving a life or extending services that is outside their regular routine.

There were eight presentations in the categories of Military, Emergency Response, Public Health & Safety, Adult Good Samaritan, Youth Good Samaritan and Fire Rescue.

There was also a special presentation, Exemplary Award of Valor, to Deputy Chris Butler’s family.

Around 20 people were nominated for their service to the community, including Valdosta officers Randall Hancock and Alyssa Shirey.
