A Columbus, Ohio man identified as John Bevilacqua was jailed in Decatur County and charged with multiple drug offenses including possession of 30 pounds of marijuana. His trouble with South Georgia law enforcement began with a Bainbridge traffic stop for failure to maintain lane.


It’s free application day at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. Officials say that any new student who applies in person will have the application fee waived today continuing until 6 p.m.


Valdosta State University is offering a spring break experience April 3rd through 7th and it’s sponsored by continuing education. Camp Discovery will feature full days of activities for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Valdosta State University will present Camp Discovery: Spring Break Edition from April 3-7. This Continuing Education-sponsored initiative will feature week-long morning, afternoon, and all-day enrichment opportunities for community boys and girls in kindergarten through fifth grade.


State labor officials say Georgia’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate has decreased to 5.3 percent. The Georgia Department of Labor released the new jobless numbers, which are from February. The 5.3 percent rate is down from 5.5 percent in January. State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said in a statement that the jobless rate fell as Georgia set record highs for the number of people employed and for the size of the labor force. Butler said the labor force was above the 5 million mark for the first time.
