| March 20, 2017

THOMASVILLE – JC Penney stores in Thomasville and Tifton are among the 138 total stores slated to close later this year.

The stores are currently located at Gateway Plaza in Thomasville and the Tifton Mall. No other area stores are expected to be closed.

The retailer announced the closings in February and today released a full list of the closures. In total, two Florida stores and five Georgia stores will be closed.

According to a press release, the liquidation process for most of the stores will begin on April 17. The company says the closures are part of “a continuing effort to advance sustainable growth and long-term profitability.”

All of the company’s slated closures are expected to be complete by June. Roughly 5,000 jobs will be impacted, according to a press release issued Friday.
