Jacksonville Mobile Vet Center comes to Valdosta

| March 17, 2017

VALDOSTA – Veterans in South Georgia are learning about potential jobs and getting access to free healthcare, all thanks to a pop-up VA Clinic at the Department of Labor in Valdosta.

The Jacksonville Mobile Vet Center travels to rural areas with a large veteran populations. They offer services like counseling and health screenings.

The Department of Labor also hosted a job fair on Thursday afternoon with 60 agencies from around our area looking to hire local vets.

Veteran Center Outreach Specialist Byron Rowe says, “Many of the veterans who need our services are the last ones to ask, for various reasons. Sometimes it’s pride, sometimes it’s a stigma associated with counseling, and sometimes it simply they don’t know we exist.”

Businesses at the job fair tell us it’s important that local vets know their community wants and cares about them.
