Fort Stewart Soldier Charged with Killing Two Fellow Army Members

HINESVILLE, Ga. – A fellow soldier has been arrested in connection with the shooting deaths of two Fort Stewart soldiers, according to officials.

Sgt. Shaquille D. Craig, 24, of Selma, Ala., was arrested Thursday by the Hinesville Police Department, Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson said. He faces two murder charges.

Spc. Marquez Brown, 23, of Macon, and Pvt. Malika Jackson, 21, of Foley, Ala., were found dead in an off-post apartment Sunday in Hinesville.

Craig is a petroleum supply specialist assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade of the 3rd Infantry Division. He joined the Army in June 2012 and arrived at Fort Stewart in January 2014.

Both were assigned to the 2nd Infantry Brigade combat team of the 3rd Infantry Division.

Craig remains in the Liberty County jail without bond.

Hinesville police tell The Telegraph of Macon that the soldiers were shot to death. Their bodies were found in an apartment outside Fort Stewart.

Hinesville police Capt. J.C. Reid told the newspaper that there had been a party at the apartment Saturday night, and that both men were seen alive by friends Sunday morning. They were found dead Sunday night.

Reid said the soldiers were identified as 23-year-old Spc. Marquez S. Brown and 21-year-old Pvt. Malika D. Jackson.

Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson confirmed the men were active-duty soldiers stationed at Fort Stewart, the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River. He said the Army is cooperating with local authorities.
