Moore Named AFCA First Team All-American

VALDOSTA –  The postseason accolades continued to roll in for Valdosta State football’s Kenny Moore, as he was named a First Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) in an announcement by AFCA on Wednesday morning.

After receiving Second Team All-Region and All-Gulf South Conference honors over the course of the last several weeks, Moore jumped up to First Team recognition on the list of All-Americans. The honor placed the Valdosta, Ga. native among eight GSC players to be awarded All-American status by Division II coaches. Furthermore, Moore represented one of just four GSC players to be granted First Team status.

“It’s an honor to receive this award, and I’d like to thank God first and foremost,” said Moore. “Also, I couldn’t be the person I am today without the help of my cousin, Justin Williams. We keep each other motivated and humble through all of our success.”

Wednesday’s award capped off a career that included two All-Region seasons, three years worth of All-Conference honors, and Second Team All-American recognition by USA College Football in 2015 for his junior season efforts. The Lowndes High graduate, who did not begin playing organized football until his senior season of high school just five short years ago, wrapped up his career as a Blazer with an incredible senior season, during which he led the team in tackles, interceptions, and pass break-ups. His 11 career interceptions place him 5th all-time in Valdosta State football history, and two of those picks came in his final game against UNC-Pembroke.

When asked about his favorite moments of the season, Moore fondly recalled Valdosta State’s win over West Georgia, in which he recorded one of his five interceptions on the year, before returning it 29 yards.

“Beating West Georgia had to have been one of my greatest memories from this past season,” added Moore. “Knowing we didn’t have the Peach Basket the last two years made it feel like something was missing from the field house. I feel complete now knowing it’s back home.”
