LCCY Family Connections hosts awards ceremony

VALDOSTA – The Lowndes/Valdosta Commission for Children and Youth Family Connection recently presented awards during its winter fundraiser.

In an effort to continue enhancing lives of children and families, LCCY hosted its first ever “It’s A Winter Affair Cocktail Social & Fundraiser” on Dec. 6. This event was held at The Patterson in beautiful downtown Valdosta. The event included hors d’oeuvres, silent auction and musical entertainment. LCCY also held an awards ceremony during the social that recognized individuals and organizations that have been dedicated in providing tremendous support to the LCCY collaborative over the past years. All of the recipients were chosen by the partners within the collaborative. LCCY was privileged to have Mayor John Gayle and Chairman Bill Slaughter present the following awards:

Community Champion – Cedric Small
Shining Star – Scarlet Brown
Community Partner of the Year – Valdosta City Schools
Pioneer Award – Dr. Amanda Brown

The Lowndes/Valdosta Commission for Children & Youth, (LCCY Family Connection) was formed as an advocacy group to support children’s interest in Lowndes County. In 1991, Georgia communities were challenged to improve service delivery to children and their families. As a result, pilot Family Connection sites were created, including one in Lowndes County. Due to similar goals among these two groups, they merged in 1996, forming one collaborative known as the Lowndes/Valdosta Commission for Children & Youth – known in the community as LCCY Family Connection. LCCY is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit has been designated by both Lowndes County and the City of Valdosta as the community planning body for at-risk youth and their families. The mission of the collaborative is to enhance the quality of life for children and youth in Valdosta/Lowndes County through a coordinated community effort.
LCCY is completely grant funded.
