| December 2, 2016

VALDOSTA The Valdosta State Lady Blazers obliterated the Eagles of Trinity Baptist College in a lopsided 101-30 non-conference victory on Thursday night at The Complex.

After a quick three-ball by Kenya Samone’ Dixon just 17 seconds into the game, the Blazers scored 17 additional unanswered points for a 20-0 run over the course of the first five minutes of the contest. The Blazers never looked back, and went on to outscore the Eagles 56-22 in the first half alone.

Trinity’s thoughts of a comeback effort after halftime were quickly dashed in the third quarter, when the Blazer defense held the Eagles to just two points. The final period was highlighted by another strong defensive effort, resulting in just eight total points in the second half for the opposition.

Reigning Gulf South Conference Player of the Week Madi Mitchell recorded another double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds in the game. The double-digit effort in the two categories marked the fifth straight for the junior and put her squarely in third place among all GSC scorers with an average of 19.2 points per game.

Each of the eight players that entered the contest for Valdosta State scored points in the game, and six of those players reached double figures in the column. Samone’ Dixon was yet another Lady Blazer to achieve a double-double in the game after scoring 13 points and hauling in 12 rebounds.

The win lifted Valdosta State to an even 3-3 on the season, while the Eagles fell to 4-4 overall.

The Lady Blazers now turn their attention to the start of their conference schedule, beginning with a matchup against West Florida in Pensacola, Fla. on December 11th. Tip time for that contest is slated for 6:30 p.m. EST, with live coverage available at
