Authorities looking for witnesses in shooting at Thomasville Whataburger

THOMASVILLE – Authorities in Thomas County are investigating a weekend shooting. It happened just after 10 p.m. Saturday at Whataburger on Highway 19.

Thomasville resident Reid Myers says he drove by Whataburger late Saturday night. “There was caution tape around the entire parking lot and there was a noise going off. There were just a bunch of cops and it was an ambulance,” he said.

Thomas County Sheriff’s investigators say a large crowd was at Whataburger when a fight broke out suddenly. Then someone fired into the crowd in the parking lot.

“That’s crazy. I ain’t going to lie, nothing ever happens here, really. That’s crazy. It scared me. I was scared to come to town,” said Seth Boyles, a Thomasville resident.

Authorities say the gun was fired between 15 and 20 times. Two people were shot in the leg and taken to the hospital.

Ben Buller is an exchange student from Dublin, Ireland. He frequently stops by Whataburger during his stay in Thomasville.

“It’s very unusual. Things like that don’t usually happen that often in Dublin. So, to have something like this so close to where I come so often is pretty scary,” Buller said.

Investigators say there had been a high school basketball game Saturday night, and that’s where the crowd at Whataburger came from.

They’re asking those witnesses to step forward. Anyone with information is urged to call the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office at (229) 225-3300.
