VALDOSTA – Smiling faces helping give families their next holiday meal for the Second Harvest ‘Thanksgiving for Thousands’.

“There’s so much out there talking about food and what people are eating that there could be people out there who don’t have the opportunity to eat,” says Erin Gaskins, a volunteer.

Boxes and bags were stuffed full of food.

This Thanksgiving, the Second Harvest Food Bank is feeding more than 2,000 families in South Georgia.

“It means a lot to me”, says Deandrea Byrdsong, a mother of two kids. “I think it’s great for needy families. Some families live off of fixed incomes and don’t have any extra income coming in, so it’s kinda rough, but this helps out alot.”

Each box contains 20 pounds of food.

They say it’s enough to feed her family, and many others, for up to a week.

“It makes me feel really good, especially when you see the young kids participating,” says Byrdsong.

The volunteer were young and old.

They came ready to lend a helping hand to those who need it most.

“When they tell you thank you it almost feels like your heart wants to burst,” says Gaskins. “You’re just so grateful for them being there and that you can help them.”

A community working together, and giving hope this holiday season.
