| November 16, 2016

VALDOSTA – In recognition of an outstanding 2016 regular season effort, Valdosta State volleyball senior Susanna Peonia has been selected as a member of the All-GSC First Team, as announced by the Gulf South Conference office on Monday.

Peonia has been one of the Blazers’ top performers and the picture of consistency for VSU over the course of the past two seasons, making this the second consecutive season in which she has been voted on as a First-Team All-GSC selection. As a junior in 2015, she racked up 310 kills, 72 digs, and over 100 blocks, and she has been just as impressive during her senior year.

“I’m really pleased that Susi was recognized in this way,” said Head Coach Mike Swan. “She has been a consistent, go-to player during the past two seasons. For her to repeat as a First-Team honoree is quite an accomplishment, and it is one that is definitely well deserved.”

The Castel Bolognese, Italy native began the 2016 campaign with five consecutive double-double performances, and has since recorded eight more. In her career at VSU, she has blasted over 625 kills, picked up 324 digs, and recorded 186 total blocks.

Peonia will lead the Blazers to a return trip into postseason play this week, and the Blazers are set to square off tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. EST against the North Alabama Lions in Florence, Ala. Valdosta State enters the quarterfinal round of the GSC Tournament as the No. 6 seed, while the Lions fall in at No. 3.
