BROOKS Co. – A Quitman man was killed in a single vehicle wreck Sunday morning in Brooks County.

At approximately 6 a.m., the Georgia State Patrol responded to Johnson Short Road approximately 0.1 mile west of Old Madison Road in reference to a single vehicle wreck, according to GSP reports.

A 1999 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Justin Ray Parker, 23, of Quitman was traveling east on Johnson Road at a high rate of speed, said GSP Cpl. Chris Kelch.

“Mr. Parker lost control of his vehicle and traveled off the south shoulder of the roadway, striking a ditch,” said Kelch. “The vehicle then began to overturn numerous times, ejecting the unrestrained driver from the vehicle. The vehicle came to an uncontrolled final rest off the south shoulder of the roadway on its wheels facing southwest.”

Parker was pronounced deceased on scene by Coroner Mike Miller.

“Troopers suspect alcohol to be a contributing factor in this collision,” Kelch said. “No charges will be filed in this collision. No seatbelts were used and airbag deployment was not noted. Next of kin has been notified.”
