Police respond to shooting incident in Remerton

UPDATE: Officers on the scene have executed a search warrant on the apartment building and have not apprehended a suspect in this afternoon’s shooting.

REMERTON – Investigators have responded to a non-fatal shooting at an apartment complex in Remerton.

“We have a subject shot in the leg by an unknown offender,” said Investigator Derrick Sinclair.

Sinclair said investigators are operating under the assumption the suspect is still in the apartment complex and are currently obtaining a search warrant.

Contrary to reports on social media, Valdosta State University is not on lockdown, according to school officials.

School buses from Lowndes County Schools are not dropping off kids in Remerton while the investigation is ongoing.

Melody Lane between North St. Augustine Road and Baytree Road is closed to traffic.

Few details are available at the moment, but Valdosta Today will continue to update this story as it develops.
