46-year-old Scott Michael Green has surrendered himself to authorities in Des Moines, Iowa. He was sought in connection with the ambush killing of two law enforcement officers as they sat in their patrol cars just hours prior to his surrender. Official records show that Green has a history of encounters with police.

Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation have been called in to probe allegations made by the parents of a student at Turner County High School against a teacher, 51 year old Patrick Downs. So far no charges have been filed in the case involving the teacher and a 15 year old student.

Sheriff’s Deputies and officers with the Valdosta Police Department responded to a report of a shooting. The incident occurred at the Jackson Square Apartments in the 1300 block of Melody Lane. The victim was wounded in the leg and did not suffer life threatening injuries.

A group of citizens are taking a stand to protect their neighborhood and they have have begun a campaign to combat violence and crime in the Ponderosa Drive area of the city. The Citizens Against Violence organization has joined forces with a group of homeowners in the Ponderosa Drive area to make the community more safe. Due to the increase in crime some homeowners have left the area and more renters are moving in.
