VSU Volleyball Sweeps West Georgia, 3-0

VALDOSTA  The Valdosta State volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-14) Gulf South Conference Win over the West Georgia Wolves on Sunday afternoon at The Complex in Valdosta, Ga.

The Blazers jumped out to a 24-14 advantage in the first set before allowing UWG to score nine unanswered points and cut the deficit to just one point at 24-23. Valdosta State regrouped, however, and forced an error by UWG’s Paige Berriochoa to take the 1-0 match lead.

From that moment forward, Valdosta State controlled the match and used a .350 hitting percentage over the course of the final two frames to seal the deal. For the second consecutive match, juniorTristyn Sells fueled the attack for the Blazer offense with 11 kills and just one error in 20 attempts. In addition, Antia Rodriguez Sanchez also racked up 11 kills on 32 attempts.

Sydney Chick, the reigning Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Week anchored the Blazer defense with 18 digs, while Carly Smart and Sara Dandridge split 28 assists between the two.

The win extended VSU’s winning streak to three games and marked the third straight contest in which the Blazers have swept their opponent. Sunday’s victory improved VSU to 12-11 overall and 8-5 in GSC play. The Wolves saw their record fall to 4-20 overall and 1-13 in GSC play.
