Sydney Chick Named GSC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

| October 12, 2016

VALDOSTA – Sydney Chick‘s defensive efforts in Valdosta State volleyball’s massive week against Gulf South Conference competition last week earned the junior GSC Defensive Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Valdosta State was flawless in their two conference matchups over the weekend against Alabama rivals UNA and UAH, and Chick’s contributions played a huge role in the Blazers’ success. In Friday night’s matchup, Chick posted a game-high 22 digs to help VSU roll to a 3-0 win over No. 21 North Alabama at The Complex. The following day was more of the same in front of a rowdy home crowd at The Complex, where the Tallahassee, Fla. native delivered her second straight 20-plus dig effort and helped secure the Blazers another 3-0 triumph.

On the season, Chick has 267 total digs and is currently averaging 4.31 digs per set. The total represents a team-high thus far in 2016 and places her fourth overall among all players in the Gulf South Conference.

Blazer Nation’s next opportunity to watch Chick and her teammates in action will be on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m., when Valdosta State welcomes the Lady Choctaws of Mississippi College to The Complex in Valdosta, Ga.
