Gary Simon Named GSC Special Teams Player of the Week

| October 25, 2016

VALDOSTA –  A breakout performance by Gary Simon on Saturday against the Delta State Statesmen earned the sophomore the title of the Gulf South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Simon, who is currently serving as Valdosta State’s primary punt returner with an average over 15 yards per return, posted 142 return yards in Saturday’s GSC victory over the Statesmen. The St. Petersburg, Fla. native kept Blazer Nation on the edge of their seats each time he touched the ball, and his magical 70-yard punt return for a touchdown gave the Blazers a big boost in the second quarter. The 142-yard mark represents the fourth-most in Blazer football history to be recorded by a player in a single game.

On the season, Simon now has 21 returns for 327 total yards. He will join the Blazers on the road this weekend for a trip to Melbourne, Fla., where Valdosta State will take on Florida Tech at 7:00 p.m. in another key GSC matchup.
