| September 22, 2016

VALDOSTA – A breathtaking 32-30 second-set win for Valdosta State went for naught on Tuesday night, as the Argonauts took the remaining three sets for a 3-1 (25-15, 30-32, 25-19, 25-14) win over Blazer volleyball in Gulf South Conference action at The Complex in Valdosta, Ga.

In the thrilling second frame, the Blazers went toe-to-toe with the No. 23 ranked Argonauts and denied UWF set point six different times before the score evened up at 30-30. A service error opened the door for the Blazers, and Antia Rodriguez-Sanchez sealed the deal with a monster kill off the set of Carly Smart.

Susanna Peonia led the way for the Blazers with another double-double after swinging for 14 kills and picking up 12 digs. The middle blocker also posted an impressive .323 hitting percentage on the night. In addition, Smart and Sara Dandridge shared equal time at the setter position with 21 and 22 assists, respectively. Dandridge added 16 digs to join Peonia as another double-double performer.

Unfortunately for the Blazers, the attack of Corisha Smith was too much to overcome. The outside hitter racked up 21 kills in the contest against just three errors for a stellar .450 hitting percentage. Kathryn Torre also put up impressive numbers in the kill column with 17 kills and a .455 hitting effort.

With the loss, the Blazers fell to 4-7 on the year and evened up their GSC record at 2-2. The Argonauts improved to 7-4 overall and lifted their conference record to 3-0.

Next up for Valdosta State, it’s another GSC showdown against the Shorter Hawks on Friday night at The Complex. Tip time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
