Man killed in officer involved shooting identified

ALBANY – Officials have released the name of a man who reportedly stabbed a police officer before being shot by that officer in Albany Wednesday morning.

Robert Lee Brown, 55, reportedly stabbed a 34-year-old Albany Police Department officer who had responded to the intersection of South Madison and West Lincoln Avenue after receiving a reports of a suspicious person throwing items onto the road, according to released reports from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

After the officer arrived on scene, Brown reportedly lunged at the officer, hitting him in the shoulder. Brown was directed to stop by the officer before he was shot, according to the GBI. Brown was taken to the hospital where he later died.
