Lowndes, Valdosta schools to meet with emergency officials on possible school closures

VALDOSTA – As Tropical Storm Hermine approaches, Lowndes County Schools and Valdosta City Schools have announced they will be holding meetings Thursday morning to determine whether or not classes will be cancelled Friday.

Lowndes and its surrounding counties is currently under a Tropical Storm Warning. Tropical Storm Hermine is expected to drop four to eight inches of rain in Lowndes and bring 40-50mph winds with gusts up to 75mph.

Hermine is also expected to make landfall as a Category 1 Hurricane.

Valdosta City Schools officials will meet local emergency management officials at 9:45 a.m. to determine a course of action.

Officials at Lowndes County Schools will also meet with emergency management officials this morning to make a decision about Friday classes.
