Blazers Surge to 5th Place on Final Day of Cougar Invitational

COLUMBUS – The Valdosta State Blazers jumped from 9th place to 5th place on the final day of the Cougar Invitational in Columbus, Ga. at the Country Club of Columbus on Tuesday.

Valdosta State delivered one of the top three team scores on the day with a round of even 284 on the par 71, 6,515-yard course. As a result, VSU passed four teams on the final day, including the hosting Cougars of Columbus State, who finished at 12-over 864.The Blazers closed out at 11-over 863 behind North Alabama, Lander, Lee, and Florida Tech, who represented the top four finishers, respectively.

Individually, Valdosta State benefitted from a sparkling 2-under 69 third round from Colton Godwin, who closed out in a tie for 16th place overall. The Blazers’ leading competitor in the tournament was Olav Zandveld, who continued his consistency with an even par 71 in his final round. Zandveld finished tied for 8th place in the tournament at 1-under 212.

Remaining contributors on the final day included Matt Anderson with a round of 1-over 72 and a final score of 8-over 221, and Jordan Long, who chipped in on day two with a final round of 1-over 72.
